About the pattern

These Tunisian crochet mittens are made flat top-down and seamed.

You can choose to add a textured stitch on the back of the hand or to let the simple stitches show off the beautiful hand-dyed sock weight yarn.

Any sock weight or size 2 yarn works for this pattern as long as you get gauge. Gauge is important to get well-fitting mittens, so make a gauge swatch before you start.

The pattern is offered in six adult sizes, so you can make fingerless mittens for your entire family.

Sizes

The table provides approximate sizes for the length of the mitten. For longer hands, add more rows. For shorter hands, skip rows before or after the thumb.

Skill level

Intermediate in Tunisian crochet, due to shaping stitches (casting on stitches on both ends of the row) and optional mosaic.

Materials

  • Yarn: sock weight or size 2, with 400-420 meters per 100 grams; approximate usage per size:  22, 26 (32, 36) [42, 48] g per pair per size; approximately 1/3 of the weight in a contrast color if adding the mosaic.
  • Hooks: 5 mm Tunisian crochet or straight hook; 3.5 mm regular crochet hook.
  • Tapestry needle, scissors.
  • Optional: stitch markers for the mosaic section, 1 m elastic thread for the cuff.

This pattern is excellent for showing off small quantities of hand-dyed yarn. Use a plain color as contrast for the mosaic.
