Melt the ICE Tunisian crochet hat
Description
All proceeds from the sale of this pattern go to the immigrant aid agencies who will distribute the funds to those impacted by the actions of ICE.
This is a spade-shaped beanie with an elastic brim that can be folded over. It is inspired by the knit Melt the ICE hat, which in turn is inspired by Norwegian protest beanies from the Second World War.
The beanie is worked sideways from a short row, with increases and decreases on the edge, which form the spade shape. There is a small seam at the end where you connect the last row to the first. The rest of the beanie is made in one piece.
The ribbed brim can be worked at the same time or attached after making the main part of the hat. You can skip the brim and sew in a lining instead.
The length is also adjustable, by increasing or decreasing the number of starting stitches.
The yarn choice also helps in making the hat fit better. Use yarn with high twist and multiple strands for a tighter fit.
Measurements
The stitch counts are provided for making a beanie that is 52 cm or 20.5” in diameter and 30 cm or 12” from tip to bottom of the double brim.
This pattern is easily adjustable for length and width. Instructions are provided on when to make these changes.
