About this Tunisian crochet shawl pattern

If you love crescent shawls and want to try your hand at Tunisian crochet, this easy Tunisian crochet shawl pattern is for you. Very simple, it uses three of the most common and easiest Tunisian crochet stitches. It has a beautiful spine and a naturally made border along the top side.

The longest edge is rounded and fits perfectly around your shoulders. Use DK yarn and a thicker hook for a fast project that you’ll complete in hours. After light blocking, I guarantee this will become your next favorite item to wear this fall.

There is a video tutorial for the first five rows and the binding off available here.

Skill level

Intermediate or enthusiastic beginner – you need to know how to make Tunisian simple stitches, Tunisian knit stitches and Tunisian full stitches, to be able to count stitches and to be able to recognize these stitches, as you will possibly be working off pattern after the first few rows.

Finished size

If you use the recommended yarn, you will get a shawl that is about 200 cm or 78″ in length (not including the tassels) and 60 cm or 25″ in width.

Notions

You can use any DK or size 3 yarn in your stash, preferably wool (any kind of wool, not just sheep wool) or acrylic or a blend. You can also mix colors or use gradient cakes. The simple stitch pattern will show off even the busiest of yarn colors.

I do not recommend using cotton or cotton blend gradient cakes for this pattern, but if you really want to use one it would help to pair it with a mohair lace yarn that allows the stitches to glide.

You will need approximately 600 meters or 300 grams or DK or size 3 yarn and an 8 mm Tunisian crochet hook with a cable (between 60 cm and 100 cm is what I find is usually available – either will work, as you can cram lots of stitches on the cable).

If you use much thinner yarn, go down a hook size or two, if you use thicker yarn go up a hook size. In the end, you need to be able to slip the stitches on and off the hook easily.
